Vi commences migration of 3G spectrum to 4G in Delhi NCR: Here's what that means
Vodafone Idea also announced that even as it migrates 3G spectrum to 4G, it will continue to offer 2G services in Delhi-NCR.
Vi, formerly known as Vodafone Idea Limited, on Wednesday, announced that it has commenced the migration of 3G spectrum to 4G at all sites in Delhi-National Capital Region (NCR).
The process would enable the telecom giant to enhance its GIGAnet 4G capacity in the region. It would also ensure that Vi customers enjoy better 4G speeds in Delhi NCR.
The company said that to migrate its 3G spectrum into 4G network in the region, it would be deploying 5 MHz of 2100 MHz spectrum band in the city. This would ensure that Vi customers in Delhi will get higher download and upload speeds. They will also get better indoor coverage owing to this change.
Vodafone Idea also announced that even as it migrates 3G spectrum to 4G, it will continue to offer 2G services in Delhi-NCR.
Vodafone Idea subscribers who are still using the company's 3G SIM can get access to the Vi GIGAnet 4G network by upgrading their prepaid and postpaid numbers to a 4G SIM at the earliest free of cost.
Notably, the development comes less than a month after the telecom giant began a similar process in Mumbai.
“We have over 2400 ma-MIMO installations in Delhi & NCR which is by far the highest by any operator in the region. Vodafone Idea has also deployed 2100+ small cells in Delhi & NCR for improving the experience in congested areas within the city such as Govindpuri, Gandhi Nagar, Lakshmi Nagar etc. All these network augmentation initiatives have been undertaken to offer our customers an enhanced 4G data experience and to complement their data demand,” Arvinder Singh Sachdev, Operations Director- Delhi & NCR, Punjab, Haryana, HP, J&K, Ladakh, Vodafone Idea said on the occasion.
