WWDC 2020: iOS 14, ARM-based Macbook expected at Apple’s dev conference

Apple’s WWDC 2020 developer conference will begin on June 22. Here are key things to expect from the event.

Apple's annual developer conference “WWDC” will be held from June 22 to June 26. This will be the first time Apple will be holding the conference online. Just like every year, Apple will make a slew of announcements, primarily focused on its software and a growing community of developers.

iOS 14

As expected, the highlight of this year's WWDC will be the iOS 14. The latest iteration of iOS is said to come with a wide range of new features along with UI improvements. Ahead of the official launch, some important details about the iOS 14 have already been revealed. For instance, Apple launch home screen widgets for the first time. 

The iOS 14 is also said to focus on Augmented Reality with new apps as well as opening up support for third-party apps. There will be a focus on improved machine learning algorithms with a special emphasis on data privacy and security.

watchOS 7

Apple's new software for Apple Watch is expected to come with incremental upgrades over the predecessor. Usually, the focus is on making the interface more intuitive for users. From a new features point of view, you can expect Apple to offer more standalone applications for Apple Watch. There are also reports of Apple working on a Kids Mode. Health and fitness will continue to dominate the overall theme of the new watchOS update.

Other software updates

Other low keys, yet important, updates will be announced for tvOS and macOS. The upcoming tvOS 14 is said to bring a dedicated Kids Mode, improved performance and optimisations. The macOS 10.16 is also said to come with incremental interface improvements.


Apple's WWDC 2020 isn't just about the software. This year, Apple is expected to launch a redesigned iMac with a 23-inch display. The upcoming device is said to offer slimmer design and some big performance upgrades via Navi GPUs from AMD. It's also said to come with Apple's new T2 security chip for better privacy.

Apple will also reportedly launch a ck which will be based on an ARM chip. If launched, this will be the first time in 15 years, Apple will work with a chip company other than Intel.
