WhatsApp beta now supports picture-in-picture video calling
This feature minimises the video call screen to continue chatting on WhatsApp. This feature has been available for iOS users since last September.
WhatsApp could be finally rolling out picture-in-picture mode for video calling on its Android app. This feature is currently available for WhatsApp beta users on the latest version of the app.
This feature essentially allows users to minimise the video calling screen and continue using the app. Previously, if a user would go back from the video calling screen camera access would be turned off.
If you're not a beta user you can become one by enrolling yourself into the programme following this link. The process will take only a few minutes and you'll become a beta tester for Android.
With the feature available for WhatsApp beta users it shouldn't be long till it rolls out for the stable version of the app.
WhatsApp's picture-in-picture mode comes with another functionality which is also available for iOS users. It allows users to watch YouTube videos within the chat box. If a YouTube video is shared on WhatsApp it can be watched without exiting the app. WhatsApp rolled out this features for its iOS app last year in September.
