WhatsApp rolls out playback speeds for voice messages to beta users
WhatsApp beta users on Android and iOS can now listen to voice messages on different playback speeds.
WhatsApp rolled out playback speeds for voice messages on the Android beta version of the app. But it removed the feature in the next beta update. WhatsApp has now added the feature again for Android beta users, and also rolled it out to iOS beta users as well.
WhatsApp beta users on Android and iOS can download the latest version of the app to try out the new feature. Interested WhatsApp users can register for the beta program through this link to try out unreleased features. iOS users will have to download the TestFlight app to download the beta version of WhatsApp. But the beta programs on Android and iOS are usually full so you might have to wait for a slot.
WhatsApp was spotted testing different playback speeds for voice messages last month, WABetaInfo reported. It has now added three different playback speeds for voice messages and in an updated UI.
WhatsApp beta users who are part of the test will see the playback speed symbol in a voice message. There are three playback speeds of 1x, 1.5x and 2x. The voice message will play normally but once you tap on the icon the speed will change. So the first tap will be to increase the speed by 1x, the second one by 1.5x and the third one by 2x. There's no option for a slower playback speed for voice messages.
With the feature available to public beta testers on both Android and iOS, it shouldn't be long till WhatsApp rolls it out to all users.
