WhatsApp is evolving at a very fast pace and it now seems it wants to be more like Facebook in the coming days. We have already seen WhatsApp borrow some popular features form the Facebook Messenger app, and now, it is wanting copy another feature from Facebook itself that has been around for years. WhatsApp users will now be able to see cover photos as background for their profile photos — the layout will be largely similar to the cover photos we see on Facebook.

Noted first by WABetaInfo, it has been found that WhatsApp is wanting to bring the cover photo feature to its users. There is no idea behind this yet other than the efforts to make the info pages look better, or more informational. However, there is a caveat and that may not let everyone use the feature. Read on to find out why.

WhatsApp Cover Photo feature coming soon

WhatsApp Cover Photo feature will be available only to WhatsApp Business users, that too only on the desktop client with the latest update. Hence, in order to have your Cover Photo, you will need to have your WhatsApp Business account and you will need to view it in desktop.

Note that WhatsApp Cover Photo feature has been around for a while for WhatsApp Business for iOS users. Those using the WhatsApp Business app in beta have been able to set up their own cover photos. The feature is yet to be finalised for WhatsApp Business on Android, and is currently in testing for WhatsApp Desktop client.

“Thanks to cover photos, you can enhance your business profile by adding a header image and when your customers and other businesses visit your profile, they will be able to view the cover photo. Note that this is another business tool, so cover photos cannot be setting up from standard WhatsApp accounts,” says WABetaInfo.

While the cover photo is heading to WhatsApp Business accounts, it remains to be seen whether regular users also get the ability to set it up. In other developments, rumours have it that WhatsApp is also planning a subscription based model for the Business users. For regular users, WhatsApp had recently released the ability to react messages using emojis — both on group chats and personal chats.
