Ubisoft, the game developer that is in news these days for its forthcoming title, Assassin's Creed Valhalla, has slapped a lawsuit against two tech giants - Apple and Google. Why? Because the two firms apparently allowed the sale of a ‘Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six' ripoff on their app stores. However, the two targets of the lawsuit are unusual since the ripoff title is said to have been developed by Qookka Games, the trading name of developer Ejoy, which was acquired by Alibaba in 2017.

Targeting Apple and Google might, however, help Ubisoft in preventing the sale of the title on digital platforms.

In the lawsuit, Ubisoft claims that the ripoff game called ‘Area F2' is a ‘near carbon copy' of the ‘Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six' title. Area F2 makers are said to have made the title as close to the original as possible. “Virtually every aspect of AF2 is copied from R6S,” Ubisoft in the lawsuit, as reported by Bloomberg. The elements that match in the game includes everything from “the operator selection screen to the final scoring screen, and everything in between.”

It is worth adding that Area F2 is not available on PC or console. It is a mobile-only title and is said to take advantage of Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six's availability on small screen devices. “Ubisoft's competitors are constantly looking for ways to piggyback on R6S's popularity and to capture the attention, and money, of R6S players,” states the suit.

Rainbow Six: Siege is said to be Ubisoft's one of the most popular titles with over 55 million registered players globally. It reportedly witnesses around 3 million daily players and is played in esports competitions as well.
