Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto V has been one of the most popular games of this decade. And you can imagine the level of craze when the seven year old title becomes ‘free' for a few hours and the online store crashes since so many gamers flock to get their hands on it. Yes, Epic's online Game Store was down for over eight hours soon after the title was made free to download.

Epic had been giving a countdown for the launch of an unnamed free title and revealed it to be GTA V at the last moment. The game was made available for free at 11AM ET (May 14, 8.30PM IST). Epic however, acknowledged the outage in a separate tweet made 5 minutes after the game was available and posted a follow-up tweet at 12.58PM ET (May 14, 10.28PM) stating that it is still experiencing issues.

However, the store is back online and is letting you download the Premium Edition of GTA V. This includes the entire GTA V story, GTA Online with all upgrades and content. Also included is the Criminal Enterprise Pack for the title.

It is said that the user traffic on the Epic Games Store may have affected the servers, due to which other games may have faced issues too. On May 14, 8.54PM (same time when the Epic Games Store was down) an official Fortnite Status handle tweeted that it is “investigating issues on PC and Mac that may impact Launcher logins and in-game purchases. We'll provide an update as we have more info.”

That said, Fortnite meanwhile claims that it now has over 350 million registered players.
