Pokemon Go Fest to be held online this year

The first Pokemon Go fest was held in 2017 in Chicago to mark the game’s one-year anniversary. This year, it's going online

The Pokemon Go Fest for this year will be held online over July 25 and July 26. This global event is usually held across select cities and and gives Pokemon Go players a chance to meet at a spot like a large park that probably houses enough gyms and pokestops and play. This year, obviously, that will not be possible due to the pandemic and the event has been moved online.

The first Pokemon Go fest was held in 2017 in Chicago to mark the game's one-year anniversary. However, over the following years, the fest was also held in other countries like Germany and Japan.

Besides the event going online, players will also get to attend both days of the event. Usually, they are allowed to attend only one of the days. Niantic is also planning to increase the number of tickets available this year.

“Since the event is now global, we're taking steps to make tickets available to as many Trainers as possible,” Niantic's director of marketing and global events Michael Steranka said in a blog post.

Niantic has not yet detailed out exactly what the two-day festival will include, however, it notes that “new experiences, gameplay, and surprises” will be a part of Pokemon Go Fest 2020.
