A smarter WhatsApp Disappearing Mode coming soon? Check what's on the cards
In the WhatsApp Disappearing Mode, the company is getting set to provide more options to users.
A Whatsapp feature that has been in the news recently is getting set for an upgrade. WhatsApp Disappearing Mode feature turns conversations into ephemeral chats that disappear after seven days of sending the message. Now, word is that the Facebook-owned messaging platform is planning to make this feature smarter by giving WhatsApp users more control over when the messages should disappear.
As of now, WhatsApp users get a simple Disappearing Mode feature in its Group chats and individual chats. When users turn on the Disappearing Mode mode, the messages sent thereafter disappear after seven days. And when the feature is turned off, all the messages stay inside the chat like the messages sent before enabling this feature. Now WABetaInfo reports that WhatsApp is working on a new and improved Disappearing Mode feature for individual chats.
A screenshot shared by the blog site shows that WhatsApp’s new Disappearing Mode feature will give users a timer option after which the messages will disappear once the feature is turned on. “Default disappearing messages timer...When enabled, all messages in new individual chats will disappear after a selected duration. This will not affect your selected chats,” WhatsApp says in the screenshot shared by the publication.
When rolled out, WhatsApp will give users a total of four timer options to select from. After the seven days timer, WhatsApp will also give users 24 hours and 90 days as options for their messages to disappear automatically. The fourth option is to turn the feature off. “For example, if you select 24 hours, new chats will automatically have the disappearing message mode enabled with that duration,” the blog site explained.
As of now this feature is being developed for individual chats in WhatsApp’s Android and iOS-based apps. There is no word on if WhatsApp is planning to introduce a similar functionality in group chats. That said, though WhatsApp’s new and improved Disappearing Mode feature isn’t available for testing on the company’s Android or iOS-based beta apps yet, it is likely to be rolled out as an update soon. Once the company is done testing, the Disappearing Mode feature will be rolled out to WhatsApp’s main app.
