Amazon India bring Watch Party to Prime Video: Here’s how you can use it

Amazon India has introduced a new feature called Watch Party in its Prime Video service that will enable Prime members to watch their favourite shows or movies with their entire gang even as they stay apart.

The year 2020 has forced us to make major changes to the way we live our lives. This includes staying away from our near and dear ones. Amid the circumstances, messaging and video conferencing apps such as Zoom, WhatsApp and Messenger have improved their functionalities in order to help more people connect with their friends and family at a time. In addition to these, streaming platforms such as Spotify introduced new features so that people could listen to their favourite songs with their squad simultaneously. Now, Amazon has taken a step in the same direction.

Amazon India has introduced a new feature called Watch Party in its Prime Video service that will enable Prime members to watch their favourite shows or movies with their entire gang even as they stay apart.

To give you a quick brief, Watch Party feature provides synchronised playback that is controlled by a host. Participants can not only stream a video but they can also communicate with other participants. Up to 100 participants can watch a video together in a session.

The only caveat is that all participants must have a Prime membership or Prime Video subscription. Also, this feature is available in the Prime Video desktop app only. This means that if you can watch a video together with your friends using the Watch Party feature while using the Prime Video mobile app.

If you already have a Prime subscription, here's how you can use this feature:

Step 1: Click on the Watch Party icon on your screen for movies. You'll find it in the episode list for TV shows.

Step 2: Choose the name you'd like to use while chatting. Create your Watch Party

Step 3: Share your Watch Party link with up to 100 people. Your friends can join by clicking on their link.

Step 4: Once everyone is ready, start your Watch Party. The host can play, pause, and skip for the group.

Notably, Amazon had earlier introduced the Watch Party for Prime users in the US. Now, the company has brought this functionality in India. Amazon Prime yearly subscription costs ₹999 in India. The monthly subscription cost, on the other hand, stands at ₹129 per month.
