2020's most popular game Among Us to get a new map and in-game social network
Perhaps the most important change coming to Among Us this year is an in-game friend system that will essentially work as a social network inside the app
Among Us was hands down the most popular cross-platform mobile game of 2020, having racked up the most downloads overall on both iOS and Android last year. We’d recently reported that the game had beat PUBG Mobile, Roblox, and Call of Duty: Mobile in 2020. The game’s developers, Innersloth, arent resting on their laurels, though.
According to Innersloth community director Victoria Tran, who spoke at CES 2021 about the company’s future roadmap for the wildly popular mobile game this year, according to an online report. The biggest challenge for Innersloth would likely be keeping all those new users they gained last year. Tran said the game would receive a brand new map, long rumoured to be called “The Airship”, which was already in the works. The game will also likely include new tasks as well.
Perhaps the most important change coming to Among Us this year, according to Tran, is an in-game friend system that will essentially work as a social network inside the app. While details are currently scarce, given the popularity of the game, this could potentially make way for features like item trading or more advanced social features aimed at gamers.
Among Us, the game that involves a group of users who must work together to find the “imposter” in their midst, went wildly popular last year after most of the world went into lockdown. The game which is actually over two years old, got most of its new users after the pandemic, including Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez who live-streamed herself playing the game on Twitch two months ago, racking up a record number of individual viewers at the time.
