Whatever you think of the Bengaluru police department, you can't deny one thing: it's digitally savvy. It was the first police department in the country to join Twitter; and now, it wants the public to live stream videos of crimes as they happen using Periscope, Twitter's live streaming smartphone app.

According to the Economic Times, the Bengaluru police will initially use the app the live stream its press conferences, something that the Prime Minister's team also did during the Digital India inaugural session last week. 'During our press conferences, we'd like to use Periscope so that people can see it happening. They can send comments and interact with us live,' said Bengaluru Police Commissioner MN Reddi.

Reddi apparently got the idea of using Periscope to live stream crimes as they are happening when he attended a conference organised by Twitter in Mumbai last week.
