Casio’s Android Wear smartwatch promises to tell time for up to 30 days

The watch face on Casio’s smartwatch features a dual layer display with monochrome and color LCDs. Users can display measurement data and apps in colour, or extend the device’s life to more than a month by selecting the Timepiece Mode that displays only watch data in monochrome. This feature will make sure that even if you are running extremely low on battery, at the least, the watch will let you do is tell time.

Casio hasn't been known to make the most beautiful watches as clearly documented by The Verge in this photo essay from June 2015. Remember those calculator watches from the company? They were quite smart, at least at crunching numbers. Their new device, WSD-F10 Smart Outdoor Watch, is much smarter. It is an Android wear smartwatch with water resistance up to 50 meters depths and built to military standard specifications.

Manufacturing watches since 70's, Casio has developed PDAs and cellular phones from the 90's into the 2000's. Leveraging its technological and experiential expertise with both watches and information devices, Casio continues to develop wrist devices that deliver.

The Casio Smart Outdoor Watch retains the conventional look enhanced outdoor abilities (of Casio's Outdoor Wacth lineup), as the name suggests. It is water resistant and has been successfully tested to military standard. Specifications ensure that it can withstand rugged activities like rafting, hiking and potentially, the Ironman Triathlon.

The WSD-F10 will be packed with Casio's tailored apps for outdoor activities, such as trekking, cycling, and fishing. The dedicated apps are designed to measure changes in environment and track your activities. Android Wear will also let users download their own apps from the Play Store to expand features set for diverse outdoor activities.

The watch face features a dual layer display -- monochrome and color LCD. Users can display measurement data and apps in colour with the LCD, or extend the device's life to more than a month by selecting the Timepiece Mode that displays only watch data in monochrome. This feature will make sure that even if you're running extremely low on battery, the least the watch will let you do is tell time till you manage to reach the charger.

The operating buttons are large and feature a slip-free finish so they can be operated with gloves. The wristband is made from soft urethane plastic that conforms to the wrist and can be comfortably worn for extended periods.

In addition, The WSD-F10 sets itself apart with the inclusion of an application that links the watch to the Casio EXILIM Outdoor Recording Gear EX-FR100 digital camera. That means you can remotely control the EX-FR100 camera to capture dynamic outdoor scenes.

The Verge reports that, the Smart Outdoor Watch is expected to cost $500 and reach the US in early April just after a Japanese launch in late March.
