Facebook updates Rights Manager to help creators gain more control over their images

The latest update makes it easier for content creators to trace and moderate where their images appear across Facebook and Instagram. Here is how the new Rights Manager for Images work.

Facebook has introduced Rights Manager for Images, a new version of Rights Manager that uses matching technology to help creators and publishers secure their images.

The new manager aims to empower content creators with more ownership of images they post on the social networking platform. This will also help them claim ownership of an image if it has been reused by someone else on the platform.

The feature is available to select users for now. To access the Rights Manager, Page admins will need to submit an application for the content they have created and want to be protected. The manager will use its matching technology to find the content on Facebook. It will also scan Instagram for the same. Admins will have the flexibility to broaden the scan for matching content worldwide or only in certain areas.

Facebook in a post also reminded users of its IP reporting system, repeat infringer policy, and other measures to combat infringement. Users and content creators can learn more about Facebook's infringement protection policies here.

That's why we built tools like Rights Manager in Creator Studio to help creators and publishers who have a large or growing catalogue of content better control when, how and where their content is shared across Facebook and Instagram,” wrote Dave Axelgard, Product Manager, Creator and Publisher Experience in the post.

Copyright has become a major pain point for social networking platforms with a just handful of controls to protect original images, videos, or content. Earlier this year, Instagram said it may make it mandatory to seek permission to embed someone's post.
