By now almost all the Google apps and services have received the ‘Dark Mode' treatment, a project that started last year by the search giant. However, three of the essential platforms were still missing out on the particular look - Docs, Sheets and Slides. Although Google has not yet confirmed when or if the Dark Mode will be coming to these three or not, an apk teardown file does point out that Dark Mode is indeed coming to these applications.

As pointed out by 9to5Google, the ‘Dark assets' were added weeks ago. However, the latest version 1.20.242.2 includes introductory prompts, which will show up when the new look will be rolled out to all these three applications. This also suggests that the launch will take place soon.

It has been mentioned that the list/grid view of files that can be sorted by Recent, Shared, Starred, and Offline, as well as the Trash and Notifications, may get the Dark Mode first. It will probably match the Dark theme available in Google Drive for now. The document editor is also getting a Dark look. However, this might be limited to Docs and Sheets only where users hardly change the background. Slides, on the other hand, requires theming often, as per the report.

“The dark mode canvas automatically adjusts your content to fit the dark theme,” states one of the code strings. However, it will also let you preview a document on a bright background.

It is not for sure when exactly this feature will be rolled out. As mentioned by 9to5Google, one would require version 1.20.242.2 but there are some server-side components as well.
