The Indian government has declared the PFI outfit unlawful in India earlier in the day, and now has issued takedown orders for their online presence. The PFI and its affiliate organisations have been declared an "unlawful association" by the Indian government under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). The reason behind this is said to be the outfit's links with the Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI), Jamat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) and Islamic State or ISIS, and claims that the PFI is involved in multiple criminal and terror cases.

Now, the centre has issued a new order that directs to takedown the websites as well as social media accounts of PFI as well as its affiliate organisations. The ban on PFI and its affiliates has been applied for five years and that means these websites and social media accounts could also be gone for the same period. More information is awaited on this front from the Indian government.

PFI websites and social media accounts banned

The Home Ministry stated that, “With funds and ideological support from outside, it has become a major threat to the internal security of the country. Several criminal activities and brutal murders have been committed by PFI members over the past to create reign of terror in public mind."

The government also says that the PFI has been "pursuing a secret agenda to radicalise a particular section of the society and the outfit shows sheer disrespect towards the constitutional authority of the country".
