HTC Corp. has teamed up with Beats Electronics to produce a smartphone with advanced audio and high-definition visuals for smartphone lovers who don't want to compromise on music quality.

The new handset is called the HTC Rezound and is the first smartphone in the US to feature Beats Audio from Beats Electronics -- a company led by American rapper and producer Dr. Dre and chairman of Interscope Geffen A&M Records Jimmy Iovine.

HTC invested in Beats Electronics earlier this year and aims to help its smartphone lineup stand out from rival Android smartphone makers such as Motorola, Samsung and Sony Ericsson (now Sony) by offering superior audio features.

'HTC fully recognizes the destruction to audio caused by the digital revolution. It embraces our vision to repair this ecosystem and bring the feeling from the recording studio to the smartphone,' said Jimmy Iovine, chairman of Beats By Dr. Dre. 'This is only the beginning of our plan to fix how music is delivered.'

HTC is bundling the handset with a pair of custom lightweight Beats headphones to ensure listeners don't miss out on the phone's 'thundering bass, soaring midrange and crisp highs.'

While many music-focused mobiles substitute mediocre phone specs for a better than average music experience, the HTC Rezound packs in a 4.3' HD 720p display, a powerful 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 4G LTE, DLNA, an 8MP rear-facing camera with 1080p video recording and a 2MP front-facing camera.

The handset is similar to its European counterpart, the HTC Sensation XE (which is also a Beats Audio device), and is one step up from the HTC Sensation that was launched earlier this year.

The HTC Rezound will be sold with Android 2.3 Gingerbread with HTC Sense but the company assures customers that it will be upgradable to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich in early 2012.

The HTC Rezound will be launched in the US on November 14 and will be priced at $299.99 on a two-year contract.
