MediaTek on Monday launched a new processor for entry level smartphones. The processor, dubbed as the Helio A25, features an ARM Cortex-A53 CPU that operates up to a frequency of 1.8GHz and the IMG Power VR GE8320-class graphics processor.

The newly launched Helio A25 chip comes with a flexible LPDDR3/LPDDR4x memory controller and it is built using TSMC's 12nm FinFET production process. It enables device makers to build displays with an HD+ resolution of 1600x720 pixels and an aspect ratio of 20:9.

In terms of the camera capacity, MediaTek's newly launched chipset supports up to 13-megapixel + 5-megapixel dual-camera system and a single camera up to 16-megapixel with AI-bokeh for portrait pictures. It also offers the upgraded version of MediaTek's Electronic Image Stabilization (EIS) technology with a new Rolling Shutter Compensation (RSC) engine, which the company says mitigates warped video when capturing fast action or panning. The newly launched chipset also offers better low-light performance, multi-frame noise reduction and clear-image zoom technology compared to its predecessor.

As far as the connectivity is concerned, the MediaTek Helio A25 is equipped with dual 4G SIM support, VoLTE/ViLTE service capability and WorldWide IMS support. The chip also offers global multi-GNSS options (GPS, Glonass, Beidou, Galileo) with core-enhancements.

It also supports Bluetooth 5, which is capable of providing up to 2x speeds, 4x range and 8X broadcast capacity over the previous generations of the technology. The company says that the coexistence of Bluetooth technology and Wi-Fi (now 802.11ac) is capable of providing up to 5x Wi-Fi throughput boost over the previous generations.

Notably, while MediaTek announced the launch of its Helio A25 SoC today, it is already available in the Infinix Smart 4 Plus that was launched at a starting price of 7,999 in India earlier this month and the Tecno Spark 5 Pro that costs 10,499 in India.
