New 12.9-inch mini-LED iPad Pro’s repair fee without AppleCare+ costs the same as a brand new iPhone 12 Mini
Apple announced at its last month’s ‘Spring Loaded’ event that the new 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro models now come with the M1 chipset, which was announced for MacBooks and Mac Mini last year. Out of the two, the important one was the 12.9-inch iPad Pro that is also the company’s first ever to feature mini-LED display tech. However, with a new display, processor and a bunch of other features, the tablet is bound to be expensive. And since it is expensive, the cost of repair for the 12.9-inch iPad Pro is expensive as well. So much so that you can buy a brand new iPhone 12 Mini at that price.
As mentioned by macrumors, if you don’t have an AppleCare+ for the new 12.9-inch iPad Pro, the company can charge you $699 (roughly ₹51,800). This also happens to be the starting price of the iPhone 12 Mini in the US. The amount was added in the company’s iPad Service and Repair Chart right after the iPad Pro orders went live.
It is also worth adding that the $699 repair cost for the new 12.9-inch iPad Pro is just $100 (roughly ₹7,400) less than the cost of the new 11-inch iPad Pro that launched alongside.
However, this cost is when you don’t have AppleCare+. In case you have it, the service fee will only be $49 (roughly ₹3,600). However, you would have to pay $149 (roughly ₹11,000) for the 12.9-inch iPad Pro Apple Care+. The 11-inch model’s Apple Care+ costs $129 (roughly ₹9,500). Speculations are that the high cost of service for the 12.9-inch model is due to the new mini-LED display.
In India, the iPad repair page shows ₹3,900 service fee for all eligible iPads if you have AppleCare+. You would, however, have to pay ₹2,107 for AppleCare+ for the 12.9-inch model.
