Pride Month: Instagram launches features, wellbeing guide for LGBTQIA+ community

New rainbow Story rings, hashtags and Pride stickers have been introduced. There's also a wellbeing guide for LGBTQIA+ users.

Instagram has launched new features for the LBGTQIA+ community. There's also a new wellbeing guide which Instagram has launched in collaboration with The Queer Muslim Project.

Instagram launched guides last month for users to find “recommendations, tips and other content from your favourite creators, public figures, organisations and publishers on Instagram”.

The new wellbeing guide on Instagram talks about handling negativity and challenges for queer people in social media. It will also provide LBGTQIA+ users with resources to help them cope with anxiety, loneliness and isolation. It has inputs and advice on positivity and managing one's online presence from creators and communities like Veer Mishra, Gaysi Family, Under25, Solidarity Foundation, Sandy Saha, Ya_All. It will also feature illustrations from Sonaksha Iyenger.

In celebration of Pride month, Instagram has also launched some new features in partnership with GLAAD. Rainbow hashtags like #lgbtq, #bornperfect, #equalitymatters, #accelerateacceptance, or #pride2020 will now appear in the feed and with a rainbow gradient.

Story rings will also be displayed with the rainbow gradient colour. Instagram Stories which have these hashtags will be displayed with the rainbow ring. Instagram is also adding more Pride stickers, and there's also a new Pride-themed AR effect. This AR filter includes 12 LGBTQIA+ flag gradients. The new rainbow Story ring will go live in a few days but the other features are available now on Instagram.
