Samsung launches Note 7 with Iris scanner, Gorilla Glass 5 at ₹59,990

Powered by a Exynos octa-core processor that supports advanced graphics for gameplay and coupled with a 4GB RAM, the water and dust resistant phablet features an Iris biometric scanner for advanced security as well as a fingerprint sensor. The company claims that the Iris technology is foolproof as it is impossible to duplicate because every Iris has a unique pattern. Also, since the fingerprint sensor is present the phone also supports Samsung Pay - the company's mobile payment service.
"Galaxy Note 7 is the combination of all our learnings to take smartphone experience to a whole new level and I am confident that the new edition will help Samsung Note loyalists to achieve more in life," HC Hong, President and CEO, Samsung Southwest Asia, said.
The Note 7 also comes with an improved S Pen stylus and dual-edge 5.7-inch QHD (1440x2560 pixels) Super Amoled display with Corning Gorilla Glass 5. The new Gorilla Glass, which was recently launched, makes the phone 30 percent stronger and 20 percent more scratch resistant from all its predecessors.
Samsung has also thinned down the diameter of the S Pen from 1.3 mm to 0.7 mm for more accuracy and utility. The company claims that the stylus can be used as a paint brush as well. Other interesting features on the Note 7 includes an always on display which works even when wet, a screen resolution change mode and Smasung's security offering Knox.
The phablet, which comes with a 3,500 mAh battery that supports wireless charging, runs on Android Marshmallow and comes with 64GB internal memory. The user can change the resolution of the screen from HD, FHD to QHD depending on how much battery he wants to save. In terms of optics, the Note 7 carries forward the expertise of the Galaxy S7 Edge. The phablet comes with a 12-meapixel rear camera that supports fleeting moments, captures brighter photos and the front five-megapixel camera helps take wide selfies.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 7 variant that has been launched in India is the dual-SIM one, featuring a hybrid dual-SIM slot that can take a microSD card (up to 256GB) instead of the second SIM card. The Blue Coral colour variant of the smartphone that was introduced in other regions was not launched in India at this time. Gold Platinum, Silver Titanium and Black Onyx colour variants will be available on e-commerce websites starting September 2.
The Note 7 comes bundled with free Reliance Jio 4G SIM with three months of 4G data free. Pre-bookings will start from August 22 and last till August 30, with the company specifying that units will be available in limited quantities in this period. As a pre-booking offer (up till August 30), users can get the new Gear VR at a discounted price of ₹ 1,990. The company has also announced that interested users can avail of the Reliance Jio Preview Offer, which comes with voice and data benefits for 90 days, alongside access to the Jio Digital Life content service.
The company also a new Gear VR, Gear Fit2 fitness tracker and Gear IconX earplugs. The Gear Fit2 sports sensors like GPS, 24/7 heart rate monitor and accelerometer. The ₹13,990 device runs on Android 4.4 and comes with 1.5GB RAM. The Gear IconX, which are just ear buds, costs ₹13,490. Users can control music by simple tapping or swiping. The device supports a real time voice-based workout input feature and a heart-rate monitor. The new VR headset will be available for ₹7,290 from the first week of September.
