TikTok transparency report: India topped in user info, video content removal requests

India made the highest number of requests - 291, followed by the US at 78 and others like Germany, UK and Norway.

TikTok has released its latest transparency report for the latter half of 2019, which means from July 1 - December 31, 2019. The report gives users an insight into the volume and nature of requests TikTok received from the law enforcement bodies globally and how it responded to them. 

As per the report, India made the highest number of requests - 291, followed by the US at 78 and others like Germany, UK and Norway. And 90% of the requests were met with for the legal requests from India. Besides asking for user information, the India government also requested the firm to remove videos. Here also it topped the chart with 30 legal requests, of which 19 were removed or restricted.

In addition, TikTok removed 4,92,47,689 videos worldwide, which it claims is less than 1% of the videos that are created by users. These were removed for violating the company's Community Guidelines or Terms of Service. Out of all the videos taken down, the company removed 98.2% videos before they were reported by the users and 89.4% even before they got any views.

India was the top country from where TikTok removed the most videos followed by the United States, Pakistan, United Kingdom and Russia. From India, the company removed 1,64,53,360 videos while from other countries it removed 45,76,888, 37,28,162, 20,22,728 and 12,58,853 in the sequential manner.
