Twitter reveals what Indians talked about the most this year

Twitter's 2020 report includes the most retweeted, liked and quoted tweet, most talked about topics and more.

Twitter has revealed what Indians have talked about the most on its platform this year. The results aren't surprising as the most talked about topics were Covid 19, Sushant Singh Rajput, and the Hathras gang rape. There were some lighter moments as well with Twitter revealing the most shared meme, emoji and throwback conversations.

Twitter said the data for the top tweets were collected from January 1 to November 15, 2020. The most retweeted tweet of 2020 is by Tollywood actor Vijay's selfie with his fans from February 2020. The most liked tweet was Virat Kohli's announcement of Anushka Sharma's pregnancy. As for the most quoted tweet, it was Amitabh Bachchan's tweet about sharing his Covid-19 diagnosis.

Twitter also revealed the top tweets in politics, sports and business. The most retweeted tweet in politics goes to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's tweet about lighting lamps as a symbolic gesture during the pandemic. Ratan Tata's pledge to support communities affected by Covid-19 was the most retweeted tweet in business.

In sports, M.S. Dhoni's appreciation tweet for Prime Minister Modi's letter was the most retweeted tweet. Among the most tweeted hashtags, IPL 2020, Whistle Podu and Team India were at the top. Twitter recorded over 7,000 tweets per minute about TV and movies this year. Indians talked about Dil Bechara, Soorarai Pottru and Sarileru Neekevvaru the most on Twitter this year.

This year was also about nostalgia and re-discovering interests among Indians, according to Twitter. People rekindled their interests about photography, yoga and poetry while nostalgic conversations were around Ramayan, Pokiri and Mahabaharat. The most popular meme on Twitter was “Binod” which was started by Slayy Point. This later turned to Binod appearing almost everywhere on Twitter and other social platforms. The most tweeted emojis were the laughing emoji, the heart with eyes emoji, thumbs up, crying face and the prayer/hi5 emoji.
