High-tech product releases announced the week ending August 17 include the Grid-10 tablet and Grid-4 smartphone from Fusion Garage, a 24 Carat gold BlackBerry, a tough smartphone that's faster and smarter than its predecessor, a boombox for your tablet and a budget-friendly Android smartphone.

A chiseled tablet with a completely new operating system
Fusion Garage's Grid-10 tablet is a strikingly square-looking 10" device. It packs in a 1.2Ghz dual-core Nvidia Tegra2 processor, a 10.1" widescreen capacitive touch panel display (with a notably high resolution of 1366 x 768), 3G (optional), WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity, video chat with a 1.3 MP front-facing camera, GPS and 16GB of storage. The tablet runs on Fusion Garage's GridOS, a system based on Google's Android OS which features custom animations and an enhanced user interface. The tablet is priced at $499 ($599 with 3G) and will start shipping in the US on September 15.

A brand new BlackBerry coated in 24 carat gold
The recently announced BlackBerry Bold 9900 is the latest handset to receive the golden touch from luxury brand Amosu Couture. The handset features a 24 carat gold bezel and can be customized to include Swarovski crystals, diamonds or personalized engraving. There is also an option to purchase a handmade leather, python or crocodile case to match the phone. Pricing starts from £999 (€1140) and the handset is available for pre-order now.

A smartphone that's smarter, faster and tougher
The Motorola DEFY+ is the latest smartphone to turn up in Motorola Mobility's "life proof" range. The device is water resistant, scratch resistant and dust proof and runs 25 percent faster than its DEFY predecessor thanks to the latest version of Android 2.3 Gingerbread and its 1GHz processor. It features a 3.7" touchscreen, a rich web experience with Adobe Flash 10, a 5MP camera with flash, and up to 7.1 hours of talk time on one charge. The handset will be available in Asia, Europe and Latin America in early fall. Prices have not been announced.

Budget-friendly smartphone that loves to network with your friends
The Motorola FIRE is an Android-powered smartphone with a full QWERTY keyboard and touchscreen display. It can switch between work and friend modes thanks to the Moto Switch user interface. The affordable handset sports a 2.8" touchscreen, Android 2.3 Gingerbread, EDGE and WiFi connectivity, a 3MP camera, an FM radio, and up to 8 hours of talk time. The Motorola FIRE will be available in September in Germany. The device will sell contract-free for €189.
