Chinese handset-maker Xiaomi on Monday said that it planned to open a second manufacturing facility in Sri City to cater to the rising Indian demand of smartphones.

Chinese handset-maker Xiaomi on Monday said that it was launching a second manufacturing unit at Foxconn's Sri City facility in Andhra Pradesh to cater to the rising Indian demand of smartphones.

The company also said that the new facility, that will be operated by Foxconn, will have the ability to manufacture one smartphone per second once the factory opens.

Xiaomi had entered India in July 2014, and started local assembly just over a year later. It has partnered with the world's largest contract manufacturer, Foxconn, which now makes 95% of the company's phones at its plant in Andhra Pradesh. Xiaomi sells well over 1 million phones in 45 days.

The company also claims that its last released smartphone -- the Redmi Note 4 -- "has successfully become the fastest smartphone model to sell a million units in India. Redmi Note 4 has sold more than one million units in 45 days from its first sale on January 23rd, 2017." Recently, the company said that it had crossed 1 billion in revenue in the country.
