Google last year introduced a new software programme for low-end phones. Called Android Go, the new iteration of Android has been optimised for phones which don't have more than 1GB of RAM and have limited storage. Google says the OS has been optimised for speed and reliability on such low-end phones and that the average app load time is about 15% faster than usual. Android Go is backed by a range of lite applications including Files Go, Maps Go, YouTube Go.

Cheapest Xiaomi phones

Xiaomi Redmi Go is said to be the company's cheapest smartphone. According to reports, Redmi Go could be priced below 5,000. Other competing Android Go phones such as Nokia 1 and Samsung are available online for 4,200 and 5,990 respectively. Considering Xiaomi's tradition of aggressive pricing, the company may launch it under 5,000.

Entry-level specs

Don't expect Redmi Go to come with high-end specifications like Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 and Redmi Note 7 Pro. According to reports, Redmi Go will come with an HD display with 18:9 aspect ratio. It will have a Qualcomm processor, most likely a 400-series. Other expected specifications of the phone include Bluetooth 4.2, dual-SIM support, and 1GB of RAM.

India-centric features

Xiaomi is hinting that its next phone will come with a lot of India-focused features. The phone will support up to 20 Indian languages. It will also have Google Assistant with support for Hindi language.

Competition

There aren't a lot of Android Go phones in the market right now. Some of the popular Android Go phones available include Samsung Galaxy J2 Core, Nokia 1, Nokia 2.1, Micromax Bharat Go and Lava Z50. HMD Global is expected to introduce an upgraded Nokia 1 Plus in India soon.
