Since past several years, YouTube has been ending the year by featuring the work of popular and emerging video creators, indicating how the industry and the quality of videos thrived during the entire year. This was showcased in a single video as ‘YouTube Rewind'. However, 2020 has not been as friendly as we expected it to be. From forest fires to the pandemic and millions losing their lives, along with others losing jobs and industries shutting down, it is being termed as the worst year in decades. So, taking all this in to account, Google's video sharing platform has decided to cancel its ‘Rewind 2020' video.

This announcement came from Youtube's social media account last night. The statement said, “Since 2010, we've ended the year with Rewind: a look back at the year's most impactful creators, videos, and trends. Whether you love it – or only remember 2018 – Rewind was always meant to be a celebration of you. But 2020 has been different. And it doesn't feel right to carry on as if it weren't. So, we're taking a break from Rewind this year. We know that so much of the good that did happen in 2020 was created by all of you. You've found ways to lift people up, help them cope, and make them laugh. You made a hard year genuinely better. Thank you for making a difference.”

While this seems like a wise decision by YouTube, social media users and some creators are giving mixed reactions to it. While some agree with YouTube, others are opposing it. For instance, Jerry Rig Everything, a popular YouTuber who tests smartphone durability in videos, tweeted “Woah. I disagree. 2020 has been different. But you SHOULD still have a rewind. Come on. There are plenty of things to be positive about”
