Innersloth on why everything is taking so long in Among Us

The next big update on Among Us is a new map that is launching early this year. Among Us developers Innersloth is yet to announce a specific date for the new map. In a long and detailed blog post, Innersloth explained what has been happening since Among Us blew up in 2020, and why it's taking time for new features.

Innersloth had a busy 2020, and it plans to streamline things better for 2021. The indie game developer will soon release its roadmap for 2021 highlighting new updates for Among Us. It plans on taking things slow and announcing dates only when they're sure about it. Innersloth has only four people working on the multiplayer game.

Innersloth explained how Among Us gaining traction in 2020 led to the team working on the game again. “We had to spend 2 months just restructuring, figuring out new processes, and getting external partners to help us manage on board,” Innersloth said in its blog post.

“Not to mention additional platforms (like Nintendo Switch and Xbox) means more support, certifications to go through, and whatnot. We have help from our porting partners for that, but it still means we need to make sure future things we do are supported on those platforms. There's a ton of other things out of our control (legal issues, meetings, planning), so sometimes these things take longer as well,” it added.

Among Us was one of the breakthrough apps in 2020. The multiplayer online game clocked in half a billion players in November making it the highest ever for any mobile game. Among Us was also the most downloaded game last year, according to Apptopia.
