Sony unveils its next-gen PS5 VR controllers
These VR controllers will not be available for sale anytime soon. Instead, Nishino says that they ‘will be in the hands of the development community soon.’
Sony on Thursday unveiled a brand new accessory for its PlayStation 5 gaming console. The company showcased the next-generation PS5 VR controllers that are built using the same adaptive trigger technology that is available in the company's DualSense wireless controller.
The newly launched PS5 VR controllers feature an orb-shaped design, which as per the company offers a higher degree of freedom to the players. Each VR controller comes with an adaptive trigger button that adds tension when pressed. This experience is similar to the one that is available in the company's DualSense controller.
In addition to this, the newly introduced VR controllers come with haptic feedback, which Sony says has been optimised for its form factor. “When you're traversing through rocky desert or trading blows in melee combat, you'll feel the difference, magnifying the extraordinary visual and audio experience that's so central to VR,” Hideaki Nishino, Senior Vice President, Platform Planning and Management at PlayStation explained in a blog post.
Apart from this, these controllers come with a finger touch detection feature that can detect users' fingers without any pressing in the areas where they place their thumbs, index, or middle fingers, enabling them to make more natural gestures with their hands during gameplay. These controllers also have analogue sticks with buttons that can be used to pick up in-game objects among other things.
