If the new Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 looks like this we are all for it

New patent filed by Samsung has potentially leaked what the new Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 might look like.

Going by the patent the new Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 might be borrowing some of the best features from the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra and the Samsung Galaxy Flip while fixing some of the issues these flagships have faced.

Samsung filed a new patent earlier this week that reveals what could be the potential design of the Samsung Galaxy Fold 2. Pigtou and @xleaks7 were able to come up with some pictures based on the information from the patent.

Going by the patent the new Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 might be borrowing some of the best features from the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra and the Samsung Galaxy Flip while fixing some of the issues these flagships have faced.

The new patent describes a new hinge mechanism that’s very much like the one we have seen on the Galaxy Flip. The area behind the part that fold on the Fold 2 is hollow so, like it is on the Galaxy Flip, the screen on the Fold 2 will fold back into the hinge mechanism when the phone is folded. This mechanism made Flip’s folding mechanism ‘snappier’ than the original Fold. Also, this is similar to what Motorola uses on the new Razr.

The patent also confirms that there will be two cameras on the back of the Fold 2 and there is also a third square module that looks a bit like the S20 Ultra’s zoom module.

The patent also confirms that there will be two cameras on the back of the Fold 2 and there is also a third square module that looks a bit like the S20 Ultra’s zoom module. The drawings on the patent don’t show a flash, so this square module could be a flash module as well.

The front display is also confirmed by the patent. The front display comes into use when the phone is folded and is thinner this time, as per the patent. The front display is almost a strip now. It seems like Samsung does not want people to use the Fold like a phone anymore with main functionalities being moved to the unfolded, bigger screen.

There is also a cutout for the front camera on top of the screen and there is also a cutout for what might be the proximity sensor next to it. There is the volume button on the right of the phone and the power on the top with the Type-C port at the bottom. There are speaker grilles on the top and bottom.

Given the front screen is almost a strip now, an alert slider might be quite useful on a phone like this one.

Interestingly, the left side of the phone shows something like an alert slider. Given the front screen is almost a strip now, an alert slider might be quite useful on a phone like this one. It could also be a slider that unfolds the phone.

Recent leaks suggest that the Fold 2 will be launched with the Galaxy Note 20 series in August.
