Google has an important piece of announcement for many of its Android smartphone users. A Google update has been released that reveals it is withdrawing support for a bunch of its own apps from older and outdated versions of its Android mobile operating system. The Google ban is applicable from Monday and many users would have started receiving messages that they will not be allowed to use their accounts. The Google list of banned apps includes Gmail, YouTube, Google Maps, Google Calendar, Google Drive among others.

Google said that all the Android smartphones running Android 2.3.7 or lower will no longer be able to use the Google suite of apps starting September 27, 2021. Android 2.3.7 is popularly known as Android Gingerbread. It was released in September 2011 at a time when Google used dessert names for its mobile operating system.

As far as Google's recent decision is concerned, Google said that the move has been made keeping in view the safety of its users. “As part of our efforts we have been taking lately to keep our users safe, Google will not allow sign-in on Android devices that run Android 2.3.7 or other lower versions starting from September 27,” Google said in a statement.

“Users may get errors when they try to access Google products and services like Gmail, YouTube and Maps,” Google added in its statement.

In order to mitigate the impact of this change, Google has urged Android smartphone users to upgrade their smartphones to Android 3.0 or above to continue using its family of apps. Failing to do so will lead to eros and prevent users from accessing these apps on their smartphones.
