Google giving employees $1,000 allowance for work from home equipment
Google employees can continue working from home till the end of the year.
Google is giving employees an allowance of $1,000 to purchase necessary furniture and equipment required to work from home. The equivalent of the same amount will be given to Googlers in countries outside the US.
Google and Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai in an email to employees shared updates on how the company plans to continue working from home, and return to office.
“We'll have rigorous health and safety measures in place to ensure social distancing and sanitization guidelines are followed, so the office will look and feel different than when you left. Our goal is to be fair in the way we allocate time in the office, while limiting the number of people who come in, consistent with safety protocols,” Sundar Pichai said in the email.
Google plans to start reopening offices from July 6 depending on the conditions. It will follow a rotating schedule where employees will go to office once a week so in total there will be 10% workforce.
Google will expand this to 30% in September continuing with the rotating schedule. This will however be applied only to those employees who are needed back in the office. But employees who wish to voluntarily go to office will also be considered. Pichai also reiterated that returning to office will be kept voluntary for the rest of the year. So employees who are not required in the office can continue working from home till the end of this year.
