Google I/O 2018 will begin with the keynote which will be addressed by the company's CEO Sundar Pichai. During its three-day event, Google will announce new tools and platforms for developers. Google will also give a preview of its latest products and updates to the existing services.

Google I/O 2018: What to expect

Among the top announcements expected to be made at this year's Google I/O is the upcoming Android P OS. Google released the first Developer Preview of Android P back in March. In line with the timeline of its next release which will happen this month, Android P Developer Preview 2 is expected to be announced at the conference.

In addition to the availability details, Google will possibly shed light on new features arriving on the OS. Android P Expected is expected to come with iPhone X-like gestures. Android P is also expected to come with optimisations for low-end smartphones and newer security protocols.

Google could also announce new features for its AI-based Assistant. A new and refined version of Google Assistant with compatibility for more devices could be announced. In terms of products, more information on Google Assistant-powered smart speakers announced at CES 2018 is expected. Google Assistant-powered smart speakers were announced at CES 2018 earlier this year. The company could announce the commercial availability of these devices.

Google will also announce new features for its rebranded Wear OS platform. Just like Google's I/O 2016 edition, the company could announce new apps like Duo and Allo at this year's conference. Google is currently working on an iMessage-like Chat app.

Sundar Pichai is also expected to address the growing concerns over the company policies for user data in the wake of Facebook's data leak scandal. The company may also announce its compliance with EU's new privacy law, GDPR.
