Google has started testing dark mode for Search on desktop. It's available to select users, and it works with the system theme on your desktop. So if your system's theme is set to dark then your Google Search should automatically switch to dark theme.

Google has confirmed to The Verge that it is testing dark mode for Search on desktop but it hasn't given a specific date for a wider rollout. “We're always testing new ways to improve our experience for our users, but don't have anything specific to announce right now,” The Verge quoted Google as saying.

Dark mode has started appearing for select users but there's no option to manually turn it on right now. There is a way to find out if you can be part of the test, according to 9to5Google. Opening an incognito tab on Google Chrome shows a box with the message “Dark theme is now available.” It also has a shortcut button that lets users through which users can turn on dark mode.

Based on the screenshots shared by The Verge and 9to5Google, dark mode on Google Search shows a dark gray background with the headings highlighted in blue and text in white. Once activated, users can go to the settings menu and select among dark theme, light theme and device default. This way users who have their system theme set to dark will also see Google Search in dark theme. This is said to be a first for a Google product as the rest with dark mode need to be manually turned on.
