Nokia X7 can’t compete with the Androids

The X7 by Finnish manufacturer Nokia is a rather odd looking device that tapers towards the ends on both sides. While whipping it out of your pocket, you're likely to get confused as to which side is up. Its four-inch Gorilla Glass encased AMOLED touchscreen sports a resolution of 360x640 pixels, which is low compared to other Android phones.

The operating system in the X7, Symbian Anna didn't impress us much either. The icons are larger with rounded edges but there's a hint of lag while accessing apps and settings. It seems like the 680MHz processor has difficulty keeping up.

While the native music player offers loudness and stereo widening with a few presets thrown in, Nokia has still left out a customisable music equaliser. Video playback is also average. With the ability to read DivX and XviD format files, it managed to play a few of our test videos, but the 720p format came through without audio.

Games look good

Gaming on the X7 is good but the higher-end games tend to get a bit jittery.

The Nokia X7 does offer a decent amount of connectivity options, but doesn't offer a Wi-Fi hotspot. The new browser, however, is a breath of fresh air as it supports HTML5 and Flash.

Nokia Ovi Maps for navigation has been beefed up and not only look better, but also performs better too. The UI is simplistic and getting directions is easy.

The X7's eight-megapixel fixed-focus camera sports a dual-LED flash. Outdoor pictures are clear with good amount of detail even after zooming in. The X7 can also record HD video up to 720p at 25fps.

We ran the X7's 1,200mAh battery from 100 per cent to zero with a video test and it ran for an impressive eight hours and 50 minutes non-stop. This proves that the X7 has great battery life.
