WhatsApp this week: Multi-device support, pasting multiple items and more
From voice and video calls on WhatsApp Web to multi-device support, here's what's new.
WhatsApp is one of the most popular messaging apps in the world. It has over two billion users across the globe. While ease of use is one reason that draws people to its platform, its ever-fattening feature list is the other. Every week we come to you with new features that have either been released or are in making on the platform. This week is no different.
In the past week, reports detailed a number of key features that are coming to WhatsApp this week. Take a peek:
Multi-device support: WhatsApp has been working on introducing multi-device support on its platform for quite some time now. In the past, reports have said that users will be allowed to use the same WhatsApp accounts on four different devices at the same time and that the main device won't be required to have an active internet connection. Now, a new report by WABetaInfo says that WhatsApp has been testing how calls will work for the same account between different devices. That said, there is no word on the release date of this feature just yet.
Paste multiple items: WhatsApp has rolled out an update on its iOS beta app that brings the ability to select and paste multiple images and videos in WhatsApp. To use this feature, users will first need to select, Export and Copy multiple images from iPhone's Photos app and hit the Paste button in WhatsApp.
Join group calls anytime: WhatsApp is also working on a feature that will enable users to join a group call anytime as long as it is still going on. When enabled, this feature will allow a WhatsApp user to be invited to join a call any time, even if they have declined the call initially. This feature is still in the development phase.
Video and voice calls on Web/Desktop app: WhatsApp has long been known to be working on bringing support for voice and video calls to WhatsApp Web and the company's desktop app. Now, in a statement to Reuters, the company has confirmed that this feature will arrive on its platform in 2021.
