A couple of new Google Messages features have been announced and notably, this will be exclusively for users in India. The Google Messages app on Android will now make it easier for users to categorise the different types of messages they receive in addition to personal conversations. This includes transactions, promotions, receipts, order confirmations and more. Google has also introduced the option for users to automatically delete OTPs from the Messages app.

The new Google Messages features will start rolling out in the coming weeks in English on Android phones in India. To get the new features, users will need to have devices running Android 8 and newer. Android users can update the Messages app to the latest version from the Google Play Store to see if they've received the new features. Google is also keeping these features so it's up to users if they want the new changes on the Messages app.

Coming to the new features, Google Messages will now sort your messages into different categories making it easier to view them. Google said the app uses machine learning technology to automatically sort the messages in the right order. These categories include personal, transactions, OTPs, and offers. Bank transactions and bills will be added to the transactions tab, and conversations with saved numbers will be available in the personal tab. Google Messages will still show you the chronological list of messages in the home screen. You can view the different categories on top of the screen.

Google Messages will also help you keep your inbox clutter free by automatically deleting OTPs. Users will now get the option to automatically delete one-time passwords 24-hours after they've received it. This way users don't have to delete the messages manually. OTPs naturally expire after a few minutes but this feature can help keep your inbox clean. Google Messages will display a suggestion prompt to auto-delete OTPs after 24 hours, and users will just have to confirm it.
