Xiaomi launches Made-in-India Redmi Note 4G Prime at ₹8,499

The phone will be available exclusively on Amazon India starting December 15

The new smartphone will be available on Amazon India starting 10:00 AM, December 15 (Xiaomi)

Xiaomi, the Chinese handset manufacturer which has gained huge popularity in India, has launched the "Made-in-India" Redmi Note 4G at a price of ₹ 8,499 in an exclusive partnership with Amazon India.

According to a tweet sent out by Xiaomi India the phone will start selling from December 15 at 10.00 am.

This budget smartphone comes with a Snapdragon 410 64-bit processor, dual 4G-LTE SIM slots, 2GB RAM and 16 GB internal memory expandable to 32GB. Other features of the phone include a 5.5-inch HD display, 3,100mAh battery and a 13-megapixel rear camera with an aperture of f/2.4 to take better photos in low light. The front camera, which also comes with low light photography support, is five megapixel.

Earlier in August this year, Xiaomi had announced that it would manufacture its devices locally in India, in a show of commitment to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi's "Make-in-India" initiative. The company kicked off its 'Make in India' plans with the launch of its first smartphone manufactured in India -- Redmi 2 Prime. All of Xiaomi's phones are manufactured in Sri City, Andhra Pradesh, in partnership with Foxconn Technology Group.

"The 'Make-in-India' programme allows us to cut costs. We can operate here either with little or zero inventory. Over time, every Xiaomi phone sold in India will be made in India," Hugo Barra, vice president, Xiaomi Global, had said.

The company has been teasing fans in the country leading them on to guess the model of its next smartphone launch on December 15.

According to the conversation between Xiaomi India and Amazon on Twitter with hashtag #PrimeIsComing revealed that is not Redmi Note 2 Prime. All the latest tweets from Xiaomi India hinted that it could launch the successor to the Redmi Note 4G.

The first tweet read: "#PrimeIsComing with twice the memory than its predecessor!" The photo shows the earpiece and capacitive buttons of the smartphone and has a caption, "16GB flash memory with 32GB microSD slot."

The tweet which follows the first one reads: "If you're looking for stunning display, look no further! #PrimeIsComing." As per a BGR.in report, the photo showed the smartphone's display and a book with "99 99," which could have been a hint that the smartphone would be priced at ₹9,999.

There are also rumours that Xiaomi would launch the Mi 5 in the country on January 21.
