In a shocking development, a MS Teams bug prevented Android users from calling 911, the emergency number. This happened if they installed the MS Teams app, but haven't signed in. The issue was first flagged by a Reddit user, who cited the problem while calling the emergency contact number. The Reddit user had posted the issue on the platform while sharing own experience. The Reddit user was unable to call emergency services on a Google Pixel 3 smartphone. “I had to call an ambulance for the grandmother on Friday as she appeared to be having a stroke... proceeded to dial 911 just by typing and calling on my pixel. My phone got stuck immediately after one ring and I was unable to do anything other than click through apps with an emergency phone call running in the background,” the Reddit user wrote in the post.

In response to that, Google informed that in their investigation the emergency call restriction issue is under a limited set of circumstances and only to a small number of devices, which have installed the MS Teams app when the user is not logged in. Due to the issue that impacts emergency calling, Google and Microsoft both prioritized the issue and said that Microsoft Teams will soon be updated to fix the bug. While Google said that it will also roll out the update to the Android ecosystem on January 4, 2022.

Issue fixed by Microsoft Teams update

Google confirmed that the permanent fix to the Microsoft Teams will solve the problem. Though, till then Google had advised users to check if they are using MS Teams app and they are signed in - the issue happens only with the users who aren't signed on to the Microsoft Teams. Further, the tech giant advised them to uninstall the app and reinstall it if they haven't signed in.

But now with the latest update, Microsoft Team version 1416/1.0.0.2021194504 with the app-based fix is broadly rolling out via the Google Play Store. Microsoft Teams users do not need to uninstall or reinstall the app, the only thing that they need to do is to make sure to update the app.
