WhatsApp regularly tests features for its Android and iOS platforms, desktop and business apps. The latest features it’s working on include search tool improvements, ShareChat video integration, new bubble colour for dark mode and more.

These WhatsApp features are currently in alpha testing and therefore not available even to public beta users. WABetaInfo listed out a string of WhatsApp features for Android and iOS that could be made official soon. So here’s a roundup of everything new that’s happening on WhatsApp.

ShareChat video integration

WhatsApp is working on integrating ShareChat’s video player on its platform. This means that videos shared via ShareChat on WhatsApp will play inside the app itself. Users will not have to exit WhatsApp to watch the video. This feature is already available for YouTube and Instagram videos.

New bubble colour in dark mode

WhatsApp rolled out dark mode earlier this year. It continues to improve the dark experience with new additions as well. WhatsApp is now testing a new chat bubble colour for dark mode. It’s not really a change in colour but a lighter shade of green than the present one. This applies to the grey bubble colour too.

Clear except starred messages

As the name suggests, this feature will give users an option to retain starred messages while mass deleting all messages. A new option to “clear except starred” messages will appear when users attempt to clear all chats from their WhatsApp account.

Improved search tools

WhatsApp is working on a “search by date” option which will make it easier for users to specifically pick messages and media from chats. WhatsApp’s search image on the web feature is now being tested on iOS as well. It was previously spotted on Android.

Storage usage improvements

WhatsApp currently shows the storage size of photos, messages, videos and documents shared on individual chats. It’s now working on improving that by showing which photos that were shared in that chat with the storage usage count. Users can also sort these photos by size, newest and oldest. The storage usage section is also getting an option to check for large files and forwarded files specifically.
