Will Jio Phone 5G and Reliance Jio 5G debut today at RIL event? That question is set to be answered in just a few short hours and you can watch the livestream online. Reliance Industries is all set to host its 44th Annual General Meeting (AGM) 2021 later today, and the company could make announcements regarding upgrades to its network infrastructure including its plans to roll out 5G connectivity in the country, as well as a new Jio Phone 5G, which is an affordable device that could support the next-generation network technology and run the Android operating system, according to reports.

While there have not been any reliable leaks about the possible pricing of the Jio Phone 5G so far, some have attempted to estimate the price of the device. Bloomberg, for example, has reported that the Jio Phone 5G price could be as low as ₹4,000 which could indicate that the company might be looking to target feature phone users to bring them the next generation of connectivity.

Reliance Jio 5G rollout

While rival Airtel has also been testing 5G capability in the country, Reliance Jio is expected to be the first carrier to launch support for 5G connectivity in India – the company could announce its plans for the rollout of 5G in the country during the 44th AGM today. We recently reported that the company had partnered with Intel to improve its 5G network technology, while Jio had also begun testing 5G in Mumbai, according to an ET Telecom report that suggests the operator might be using both mmWave and sub6 connectivity. Jio's rival Airtel has also tested its 5G network in Gurgaon recently, and has reportedly managed to achieve speeds of 1 Gbps.

Jio Phone 5G could be unveiled

Reliance Jio and Google have partnered to bring smartphones in the hands of more Indians, and the company could be looking to do so with the help of affordable smartphones running Android, according to recent reports. These smartphones are expected to come with support for 5G connectivity, but will reportedly sport modest features. Google, which bought a 7.7 percent stake in Reliance Jio last year for ₹33,737 crore is reportedly developing a barebones version of Android for the affordable Jio Phone 5G smartphone that is expected to replace many feature phones being used in the country.

Possible arrival of rumoured JioBook

In addition to the Jio Phone 5, we have previously reported the possibility of Reliance also launching an affordable laptop that was leaked back in March. The device is rumoured to come with support for Android, with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 processor and a 720p display, along with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of storage for the base variant. The reports of a possible launch of the JioBook comes at a time when demand for computers is at an all-time high due to the pandemic. However, not much is known about the JioBook beyond the leaked information available online and we will have to wait to see if the company decides to launch the device today.
