Google on Friday launched a new browser shortcut to help users launch Google Meet faster. Available as “meet.new”, the URL takes you to a Google Meets session. The video conferencing platform gives the flexibility to switch on/off the audio and video before joining the session.

Google Meet joins a long list of G Suite apps that support “.new” extension. So far, Google has launched “docs.new”, “sheets.new”, and “slide.new” among others.

The latest feature will come in handy to a user who wants to join a session quickly. Just like other Google products, “meet.new” supports multiple accounts. You can also personalise the extension for your personal and work versions of Google Meet.

The feature comes shortly after Google introduced Meet in the Gmail application. The shortcut is now available on both Android and iOS versions.

Google has been beefing up its Meet video-conferencing application as millions of users around the world are relying on digital tools to communicate and collaborate. Meet just like many other video conferencing apps has seen exponential growth in usage. New features are likely to help Google retain users which may be interested in Zoom, another video conferencing app that has gained massive popularity in the last three months.
